Plants can be beautiful, decorative, and even fragrant – but some plants are poisonous.  If your pet or child decides to give them a try, the results could be disastrous.

So, here is a list of some TOXIC house and garden plants to avoid from your residence, courtesy of gardenhelper.com:

  • BIRD OF PARADISE - the flowering yard plant that has become synonymous with California.
  • ALOE VERA – the succulent plant with the gooey sap that soothes burns.
  • CHRYSANTHEMUM – a popular fall houseplant you can buy in grocery stores.
  • AMARYLLIS – the flowering white bulbs that show up everywhere in late winter.
  • SPIDER PLANT – a very common potted plant, especially in colleges.
  • Also Toxic - the popular bouquet flowers: IRIS, TULIP, and DAFFODIL. tulip

 

To be safe, keep all of them away from kids and critters.  However, if anyone in your household makes a snack out of one, call your local poison control center or veterinarian ASAP.
